We are a group of dedicated, like-minded individuals who share a vested interest in preserving our marine heritage. Our backgrounds are diversified, but our love for these local lighthouses have brought us together to save these treasured beacons from destruction. In 2010 the Federal Government listed over 1000 lighthouses as surplus, including these Port Colborne iconic structures. Spearheaded by local author/historian Erno Rossi, we have been meeting monthly since 2012 to prepare a sustainable business plan to successfully acquire property ownership. In the summer of 2013 and with the support from the City of Port Colborne, we were added to the Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival and offered tours to the public for the first time in over 80 years. With transportation provided by Pocomar and it's crew, we welcomed over 300 people to the lighthouses where they were greeted by our members who acted as tour guides and encouraged all visitors to climb to the top of each lighthouse to enjoy the magnificent view. Our members spend time cleaning the lighthouses, researching its history, giving presentations, and networking with other marine heritage groups.
