      Facts



  • The inner or main light was constructed in 1903.  A 42 foot square white tower made of reinforced concrete, it was visible for 12 miles and sits on the east end of a breakwall.
  • The outer light, or foghorn lighthouse, was erected at the end of a south branch breakwall extension in 1928.  This was one of the loudest fog signals on the Canadian side of the Great Lakes. 
  • A tunnel that runs along the extension allowed the keeper to get safely out to it in stormy or icy conditions. 
  • Decommissioned 33 years ago.Both lighthouses were deemed surplus by the Canadian Federal Government.
